Youth Dress Code

GENERAL DRESS CODE GUIDELINES FOR YOUTH (grades 6th - 12th)

The Christian homeschool support group is a unique and distinctive social setting.  CHET-SE believes that a Christian’s appearance and attire is a demonstrative part of his/her testimony, should reflect Biblical standards, and should at all times be pleasing to God and uncompromising of our Christian values.  I Corinthians 10:31-33 states:

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do it all for the glory of God.
Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God--
even as I try to please everybody in every way.
For I am not seeking my own good
but the good of many, so that they may be saved.”

How an individual behaves and dresses also reflects the philosophy and standards of the group it represents.  We wish to convey through our students a message of obedience to God’s Word.

Therefore, it is in this spirit that the CHET-SE Youth Group (grades 6-12) has established a dress code to be followed by members and their guests at any CHET-SE sponsored event.  We appreciate the support and cooperation of parents and students in ensuring appropriate attire.  It is realized that certain events and times of year lend themselves to more casual dress; however, modesty is always the rule.  Also, keep in mind the activities you will be engaging in as you dress and how movement or position will affect your attire and ability to remain modest.

  • Shorts should not be shorter than mid-thigh.
  • Dress/skirt length should not be shorter than mid-thigh.
  • Tops should cover the midriff, including when the arms are raised.  Sheer, low cut or strapless dresses and tops are not acceptable, nor are spaghetti straps or backless tops.  Sleeveless tops must cover the bra straps.
  • Students should consider the activity they will be doing (bending, sitting on the floor etc.) and make sure the dress code will still be adhered to when doing the activity.
  • Undergarments should be covered at all times.
  • Shirts should not have inappropriate slogans, words or pictures.
  • Please insure that all swimsuits for boys and girls are modest.  See-through, low-cut, or high-cut swimsuits are not acceptable.  Swimsuits should only be worn at swim parties and no other activities unless designated.
  • Boys should wear shirts at all times except when swimming.

If you are unsure of the proper attire for a particular event, please contact one of the youth coordinators or the appropriate parent advisor prior to the event.

Spring Formal Dress Code Guidelines:

This is a formal event, so attendees will be dressed accordingly. We want to encourage ladies and gentlemen to dress modestly and according to the guidelines. If you arrive at the dance and are not wearing the proper attire, you will not be allowed admittance into the dance. Please ask ahead of time if you have questions about dress code.

Ladies: Must wear a dress. This is a formal dance, so all dresses should be formal. Knee length (not above the knee), formal dresses are permitted, but cannot be of the fitted, “tube top” nature. They must be flowy (see attached photos). High-low dresses are acceptable as long as the front of the dress is knee length (not above the knee). Strapless dresses, spaghetti straps, one-strap dresses, and dresses with off-the-shoulder sleeves are permitted. No plunging necklines or excessive cleavage. Two-piece or midriff dresses are not permitted. No see-through dresses. Skin-tone lining is permitted. No backless dresses or dresses with low backs. If you can see your whole back, then the dress would be considered “backless.” If the dress has a slit, it should not go higher than 2 inches above the knee.

Gentlemen: This is a formal dance, so tuxedos are encouraged. Other options are to wear a suit with matching jacket and slacks, white jacket with black slacks, or for those in ROTC, CAP, or other military organizations, you may wear you formal/semi-formal uniforms. Jacket not required but highly recommended.  Bowties or neckties are required. Your ties, vest, etc. can be any color. No make-up.

• Clean, nice tennis shoes are permitted to be worn. No jeans. No t-shirts.
